  • Washington Continues To Ignore 9/11 Families

Posted 2016-08-29 20:23:47 by: Deleted Member

In two weeks time, it will be the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks that killed nearly 3,000 innocent people on American soil. For 15 years, the 9/11 families have fought to hold all culpable participants in the 9/11 attacks accountable in a court of law - with little success. We believe that the United States is a nation of laws and, as American citizens who had loved ones murdered in the 9/11 terrorist attacks, we should be entitled to justice for those brutal murders. Legal redress for an injury or murder is a foundational principle of any civilized society. Yet, in our attempt to hold the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia accountable in a court of law to face the evidence gathered against them, the 9/11 families have been blocked from doing so by the U.S. government. Shockingly, the president, State Department, and various members of the U.S. Congress choose to protect the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, rather than the rights of U.S. citizens and 9/11 family members. President Obama and Secretary of State Kerry have stated that for foreign policy reasons, the 9/11 families should not be able to sue the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia - even though, the 9/11 families have compiled reams of evidence that we believe proves that the Kingdom played a strong role in the financial and logistical support of the 9/11 hijackers. Fortunately, Obama's and Kerry's views were repudiated by the Senate's bi-partisan passage of the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act, (JASTA S. 2040) back in May 2016. In our attempt to garner more support for JASTA (H.R. 3815, S 2040) that would force the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to finally publicly stand trial and face the evidence against them, we have created the 9/11 Families' Accountability Video Project. This Project is a compilation of 9/11 Family member videos and others making extremely personal, poignant pleas to Congress to pass JASTA (H.R. 3815, S 2040) so we can finally hold the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia accountable for their alleged ...

  • Two Chicago Brothers On Parole Charged In Murder Of Nykea Aldridge

Posted 2016-08-29 20:15:14 by: Deleted Member

Chicago police on Sunday said they have arrested two brothers and charged them with the fatal shooting of basketball star Dwyane Wade’s cousin as she pushed a baby in a stroller, a murder that has stunned a city plagued by a surge in gang-related violence. In a case that has emerged as a talking point in the U.S. presidential race, Darwin Sorrells Jr., 26, and Derren Sorrells, 22, are facing charges of first-degree murder and attempted murder in the death of Nykea Aldridge, a 32-year-old mother of four, police said.   The brothers, described as “documented gang members,” are convicted felons who were out of prison on parole at the time of the shooting, police officials said at a Sunday press briefing.   Aldridge was hit when the suspects opened fire at the intended target, a driver of a car who told authorities he worked for Uber and was dropping off passengers. In a briefing on Sunday, police did not say why the driver was targeted except to note that the man was from outside the area and appeared to have an exchange of words with the suspects. One of the brothers was required to wear a monitoring device as a condition of his home confinement while on parole, except from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. when he was allowed to conduct personal business. It was during those hours that the shooting occurred, police said. Darwin Sorrells was sentenced to six years in prison in 2013 on a gun charge but was “let out early,” police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said on Twitter on Sunday. NATIONAL ATTENTION In a city with as many as 90 shootings a week, homicides in Chicago this year are on track to reach their highest since 1997, raising concern about a reversal in the declining rate of serious crime in the country’s largest cities in recent years. Aldridge’s death has drawn national attention because of the connection to Wade, a 12-time National Basketball Association All-Star who signed a two-year, $47.5 million deal this summer ...

  • The Unbreakable Relationship: Hamas and the Humanitarian Aid in Gaza

Posted 2016-08-29 20:12:15 by: Deleted Member

In early June, Israel detained the director of the World Vision charity organization in Gaza. Two months later, early August, Israeli security authorities stated that Mohammed El Halabi was arrested because he diverted millions of dollars to Hamas, which were spent for its activities. If this story is accurate, which I doubt, it must be powerfully condemned. It is wrong to channel money that its purpose was to help needy people, and improve the quality of the lives of almost two million besieged Palestinian in the Gaza Strip. Knowing the problematic situation in the Gaza Strip, we have to look at this matter from a policy perspective, where Hamas, as an Islamic movement, has a strong coupling with charities, historically. The story began in 1987 when Hamas was established as a charity organization. In 1994, PLO returned to Gaza and West Bank, and Islamists were allowed to have charities. From 1994 until 2008, the Palestinian authority, led by Fatah, imposed "No-Jobs-For-Islamists" policy. Thousands of them were denied jobs in public institutions despite their academic and professional excellence. While most of Fatah' members and its supporters joined the PA, very few of which turned to working for Non-Governmental organizations or charities. Simultaneously, the Palestinians left who opposed Oslo and found civil society as their proposer option, led NGOs that focused on democratization, civic engagement and human rights. For example, the current foreign affairs' minister, Riyad Almalki, established Panorama Center for Democracy with a substantial fund from European countries. Therefore, Islamists who did not believe in democracy and were excluded from working in public institutions (even as teachers), went around to set up their own parallel organizations, creating hundreds/ thousands of jobs for themselves. As a result and a reality, the biggest three charity organizations in the Gaza strip until 2007 were " Al-Mujam'a Alislami", "Aljamiya Al Islmiya" and "Al ...

  • How Donald Trump Appeals To Bigots By Pandering To Black Voters

Posted 2016-08-29 19:55:45 by: Deleted Member

On Friday, NBA player Dwyane Wade’s cousin, 32-year-old Nykea Aldridge, was tragically shot and killed by crossfire in a Chicago shooting. Within hours of her death, surely before her friends and family (including four children) even had the chance to process her death, Donald Trump decided to make the tragedy about himself. He tweeted:  Dwyane Wade's cousin was just shot and killed walking her baby in Chicago. Just what I have been saying. African-Americans will VOTE TRUMP!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 27, 2016 The tweet was heartless, opportunistic, and yet another example of Trump pandering to black voters by insulting them, ignoring the issues they truly care about, and playing into racist ideas about the black community. These are ideas that, in actuality, appeal to a subset of his white, anti-black supporters.  Trump has earned criticism in recent weeks for the way he has been courting African-Americans. The problem, of course, is that so much of the rhetoric Trump has used to appeal to black voters is steeped in stereotypes and generalizations about black people. That’s how a lot of political pandering works, of course ― Hillary Clinton hitting the Nae Nae and posting blogs about how she’s like every Latino’s abuela is a prime example of that.  Clinton’s pandering may be obnoxious to some, but Trump’s is just downright dangerous. He draws on generalizations steeped in racist ideology ― generalizations designed specifically to avoid actually addressing perhaps the most important issues facing black people at the moment: racism and police brutality.   In a speech at a Michigan rally on Aug. 20, Trump tried to entice black people to vote for him by painting a dire, desperate picture of black life that implicated no one but black people themselves. “What do you have to lose?” Trump asked. “You live in your poverty, your ...

  • Trumpism, Consumerism And The Destruction Of Citizenship -- Fighting Back

Posted 2016-08-29 19:51:01 by: Deleted Member

Donald Trump's candidacy gives rise to many descriptors - authoritarian, bigoted, divisive. It is also the culmination of long-developing dysfunctions of a culture where market values have spread beyond appropriate limits and radically eroded citizenship. Though many feel hopeless about changing this culture, resources are appearing for revitalizing citizenship and for building a movement for a deeper democracy, across party lines, after this sour and dispiriting election. Susan Faludi describes the consumer culture well in her 1999 book, Stiffed: The Betrayal of the American Man. Drawing on interviews with groups of men from African-American shipyard workers to veterans to evangelical Christians, she shows how ideals of loyalty, team play and the mastery of a vocation were replaced by "a competitive individualism... robbed of craft or utility and ruled by commercial values that revolve around who has the most, the best, the biggest, the fastest." Masculinity became something "to drape over the body, not draw from inner resources, to be displayed not demonstrated." Trump's public persona, winner-in-chief, is a poster child for Faludi's male. He surrounds himself with gold-plated trinkets. He seeks to brand everything he touches. He is also a snake oil salesman, a figure familiar from American history. All these traits might be called Trumpism, not simply Trump. Trumpism represents a model of public life which replaces citizens as makers of democratic society with a transactional politics that asks only "what's in it for me?" It is the mark of a society where market values spread without limit, in which we are branding and selling ourselves along with everything else. Out-of-control consumerism sets in early these days. A decade ago, the American Psychological Association's Task Force on Advertising and Children found that children viewed more than 40,000 commercials each year. Our entire society is swamped with advertising, as Louise Story described in her ...

  • David Duke Continues Bromance With Donald Trump

Posted 2016-08-29 19:42:14 by: Deleted Member

White nationalist David Duke, the former Ku Klux Klan grand wizard who is running for U.S. Senate in Louisiana, reiterated his support for Republican Donald Trump as president in a robocall urging people to vote for the pair.  “It’s time to stand up and vote for Donald Trump for president and vote for me, David Duke for the U.S. Senate,” Duke said in a robocall, obtained by BuzzFeed’s Andrew Kaczynski. “Unless massive immigration is stopped now, we’ll be out numbered and outvoted in our own nation. It’s happening,” Duke says in the recording. “We’re losing our gun rights, our free speech. We’re taxed to death. We’re losing our jobs and businesses to unfair trade. We’re losing our country. Look at the Super Bowl salute to the Black Panther cop killers.” Listen to the full robocall here.  David Duke is one of the most recognizable figures from the white supremacist far right. The Southern Poverty Law Center describes Duke as a “neo-Nazi, longtime Klan leader” and an “international spokesman for Holocaust denial.” He’s also a vocal supporter of Trump for president, and this robocall is just his latest embrace of the former reality television star. Earlier this year, Duke encouraged his radio show listeners to volunteer for Trump’s campaign. He also praised Trump’s run for president, saying it’s “very, very important that [Trump] wins,” and expressed in his video announcement of his run for Senate how excited he was about Trump’s rise to power. Duke’s own website is littered with posts in support of Trump, and echoes many of the themes Trump has run on, such as a distrust of immigrants and anger towards the media. Duke’s strategy to invoke Trump is shrewd. That’s because the white nationalist movement, which has festered on the political margins for decades, is ...

  • The AltRight, Breitbart And Donald Trump.

Posted 2016-08-29 19:23:35 by: Deleted Member

Labels are useful in politics and life. But what label to use as shorthand for Donald J. Trump's constantly mutating political pronouncements? Long ago it was clear that he was neither a conservative nor a Republican. Last Thursday, 25 August, in Reno Hillary Clinton nailed it when she tied Trump to the Alternative Right, or AltRight ,mindset and its primary proponent, Breitbart News. But what exactly is the AltRight message? AltRight lives exclusively online on sites like Breitbart News. It is anti-establishment, especially the GOP establishment, and anti-political correctness. But it's core tenet is to eschew equality and embrace hierarchy. In economics, this results in lauding income inequality and opposing increased taxes on upper incomes and the estate tax. AltRight dogma propounds the view that whites are superior to blacks, Hispanics, Asians or other races. This explains the affront they felt at a black man being elected president and their determination to defame any Obama legacy. Their affinity is for the KKK and other White supremacist organizations . They assert white victimhood. and scorn the "Black Lives Matter" movement. Trump's racism spans from his early real estate dealings to his attacks on a judge due to his Mexican heritage. The AltRight view of the sexes is likewise hierarchical. Men are to be in control and woman subservient. There is no concern for pay inequality and little for sexual harassment. Hence the AltRight affront that Hillary Clinton could be elected president. Trump's distain for women is well documented The AltRight hierarchical preference also applies to religion. Christians (maybe or maybe not including Catholics) take preference over Jews and certainly Muslims. They insist that America is a "Christian Nation" despite neither "God" nor Jesus" nor "Christ" appearing in the Declaration of Independence, Constitution or Federalist Papers. Trump's Christian beliefs are indeterminate. His bias against ...

  • Chelsea Handler Doesn't Care If Men Are Intimidated By Her

Posted 2016-08-29 19:09:19 by: Deleted Member

Yes, Chelsea Handler is still happy that she’s not married and sans children. It’s this theme of singlehood and independence that Handler continues to stress on her new Netflix show, “Chelsea.” And she drove the point home during a Facebook livestream with HuffPost’s Alyona Minkovski last week, when one viewer commented, “You’re the reason that I’m not getting married or reproducing. Kids really aren’t that great. You’re right.” Handler said, “Good for you.” “Being fiercely independent is something that is very admirable,” the comedian said. “I think that people tell us we have to get married and again, it’s like talking about the format of a TV show. People say you have to get [married]. Why? Who decided that? Why do we have to do that? I live a full life. I can’t imagine my life being any better than it is and that’s because I didn’t listen to people telling me that I needed to get married.” Despite the chorus of petulant naysayers who’ve told her she intimidates men or that “men don’t understand girls like you,” it’s not something she’s willing to change.  “Men are intimidated by me, but what am I supposed to do? I’m not going to pretend I’m somebody else,” Handler said. “I think by being intimidating, you’re weeding out the people that were never going to be good matches for you anyway.” Watch the full interview with the comedian below: - This feed and its contents are the property of The Huffington Post, and use is subject to our terms.
